One
of my favorite things to do is cook and learn how to cook new dishes.
I started cooking in college out of necessity and not wanting to
spend money all the time going out to eat. Even while sticking
to a budget, I would still try to get a little creative with my meals
rather than setteling for the staple ramen noodles or spaghetti and
sauce like most of my roommates. Lately, I have been learning to
cook some Peruvian dishes which I fell in love with during my
trips to Peru.
Here are some of my favorite recipes:
General Tso's Chicken - My favorite
chinese dish. A little tricky to make, which is probably why people
order Chinese take out instead of cooking it at home.
MealsAji de Gallina - My favorite Peruvian dish. A little labor intensive, but well worth it.
Snacks
Huancaina Sauce - Awesome sauce you can serve over potatoes or as a dipping sauce
Drinks
Gringo Sour - My take on the most popular drink in Peru.
Alagarobina - Another drink made from Pisco, much sweeter than the Pisco sour.
For Christmas 2005, my mom got me a great gift - a handwritten book
of all my favorite family recipes from home. I use the book
at least once a month and she was nice enough to scan it for me as
well! Here are the page scans from the book:
Red Lobster Parrot Bay Coconut Shrimp and Sauce Recipe - This is one of the yummiest appetizers out there! This is also featured at Outback Steakhouse under the name Gold Coast Coconut Shrimp. There are many more "copy cat" recipes here.
Beer Bread
- This is a mix from Tastefully Simple and is the best beer bread I
have ever tasted. All you need to do is combine the mix with a
bottle of your favorite beer and bake for an hour. Couldn't be easier!
Kleph's Kitchen - A nice collection of about 40 Peruvian recipes in English.
